Founding member of Tower Hamlets-based Respect, Lindsey German, is standing as the party’s candidate in the London Mayoral election in 2008. She came fifth in the 2004 election, losing to Ken Livingstone and beating the Green Party. German is a well-known socialist campaigner and member of the Stop the War Coalition. She helped to organise the 2003 demonstration against the Iraq war. In 2005 she stood as a MP in West Ham, losing to a Labour candidate. But can a left-wing candidate really beat another well-known left-wing candidate like Ken Livingstone? And why has a party with many ethnic minority councillors in Tower Hamlets not put up an ethnic minority candidate for Mayor? Click on the video link above to watch Lindsey German’s response to these questions. angela.saini@bbc.co.uklast updated: 28/01/2008 at 12:17 SEE ALSOYou are in: London > London Local > Tower Hamlets > Community Life > "Vote for me first and Ken second"
