The Non League ShowYou are in: London > Radio > The Non League Football Show > The Non League Show > About us ![]() Caroline Barker About usFind out about our presenters Caroline, Dave and Willie and all the Non League Show favourites. How much do they really know about Non League football, or are they just big time pretenders? Fascinating FactsTeam Supported: Chelmsford City (THE sleeping giants) Best Player: Jimmy Greaves (he finished his career at the mighty City) Best Game: Wycombe 4-0 Chelmsford City FA Cup (defeat can be fun) Caroline BarkerCaroline was born in the home of Radio, Chelmsford, Essex and made an early crash onto the airwaves when she was distinctly heard wailing at an FA Cup match. Many an early year was spent strapped to the back of the New Writtle Street stands in her baby-bouncer as Chelmsford City took to the field. After working her way up from early breakfast, weekend and any other stint no one else would fill at BBC Essex, Caroline joined the ranks of BBC London in 2004. She can now be found occupying the space between Sean Rowley and Norman Jay on the Sunday Afternoon Sport show, although many attempts to start her own fledgling career as an Okarina player have been scuppered. ![]() Alan AlgerIt's a bit like drinking R Whites Lemonade, Alan Alger is a secret Arsenal supporter, but not to worry he's now a Non League thoroughbred through his work at Blue Square, sponsors of the top grassroots league in the land. Alan can often be found occupying the space between the end of the football and the adverts on Setanta, and shamelessly giving odds on anything that moves in Non League Football. You can test Alan with his odds by dropping him an email at nonleague@bbc.co.uk Dave AndersonAccording to everyone you meet, Dave Anderson (born Belfast, 11 March 1962) is the former manager of AFC Wimbledon, but he's so much more than that! ![]() Dave "former manager of AFC" Anderson Anderson was a goalkeeper during his playing days and had youth contracts with Wolves and Sheffield United. As well as managing the mighty AFC Wimbledon, Dave went on to hold back-room and managerial roles at Enfield, Aylesbury, St Albans, Harrow Borough, Southall, North Greenford United and Hendon. As well as occupying the "opinionated" seat on the Non League Show, Dave can be found shaking the hand of everyone who's anyone in grassroots football, and is now boss at Ryman side Northwood. ![]() Willie's Wordsworth Wille WordsworthWillie Wordsworth has tasted greatness with Cambridge United, but it's not his first gig in Non League, oh no. He's played in far off places, like Australia, and Harrow. He's also a dab hand at the old management lark with Yeading. But his biggest claim to fame? Singing on United's Play-off final single for 2008. As well as cutting up the world of management, Willie's also a formidable scout, and always has an eye for the best talent Non League has to offer, that of course is why he's on the show. Dave WattersWhen Dave Watters first hit the airwaves his only listeners were South London minicab drivers and their long-suffering passengers! Every weekend a captive audience of hundreds were forced to help the then post graduate student fund his student lifestyle while he worked as a part-time cab controller. ![]() Dave Watters There was no escape day or night as Dave screamed for times on pubs and clubs across the capital in between begging his cabbies to buy themselves an A-Z in those dark days before the coming of Sat Nav! "It was certainly interactive if a little one-sided," says Dave. "The radio system meant people in the cabs could only hear me and not the poor driver I was shouting at!" "At least on the Non-League Show our listeners will get a chance to bite back and tell me to get back in my box." Now 39 and married with two young children, Dave's bank manager eventually forced him to quit his ivory tower, where he was studying international relations and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction of all things, to get a job. Five years covering everything from parking warden horror stories to late night local council meetings while his mates were enjoying the Champions League on the telly or out watching London's clubs convinced him to hop into the sports editor's hotseat and return to his first love - football, and Non-League football in particular. He was soon cutting his teeth and upsetting countless managers and fans with his opinions while covering famous old Non-League clubs from Kingstonian to Dulwich Hamlet and the 'Wings' of Welling United. last updated: 16/01/2009 at 16:31 You are in: London > Radio > The Non League Football Show > The Non League Show > About us PodcastDownload or subscribe to this programme's podcast |
