Out & About
She's left-handed and a Scorpio, too
Angie Le Mar's London
The UK's first ever black female stand-up combines comedy with acting, playwriting and broadcasting. Here she continues our series on London locations by revealing some of her favourite places and spaces...
I have fond memories as it's where I first stepped onto the stage when I was 10 years old. I continue going to workshops there and have joined different groups for years to come.
(Douglas Way, Deptford SE8/ 020 8692 4446)
Angie's choice... for bags
I love coming here to support the new designers. You can pick up some really original bags, so wherever you go, there will be no one else with the exact same bag. Very important!
(Located near the Thames and Greenwich Pier. Thurs: collectibles and antiques, Fri: collectibles, antiques, arts and crafts, Sat/Sun and Bank Holidays: arts and crafts and food court)
THE MANGO TREE RESTAURANT
Their Thai food is lovely, but what I do love about the place is the setting, the beautiful decor and the service is great, too. Do try their Mango and sticky rice.
(46 Grosvenor Place SW1/ 020 7823 1888)
Eat, drink, relax and buy a book, too
BORDERS BOOKS MUSIC & CAFE
The fact that you can be buying books late in the evening really appeals to me. You can relax and read and time flies by when you're in there. It's very bright and welcoming.
(203 Oxford Street W1/ 020 7292 1600)
THE HACKNEY EMPIRE
It's now my favourite theatre, and not just because they have taken four of my shows, no. It's the team that runs the theatre, right from the top. They're such a supportive team and it reminds me of people who go into the Arts just because they love it.
(291 Mare Street E8/ 020 8985 2424)
HILLY FIELDS PARK
It's my local park and it's always very clean and relaxing. It's great for long walks and perfect for the children. Who could ask for more?
(Browning Road/ Clay Hill, Enfield)
Angie Le Mar presents her own show on Choice FM, Saturdays 9am - midday. She is currently involved with a school for the performing arts that will open in 2008 in Lewisham, where she grew up.
