Winston pledges to stop the expansion of the congestion charges if he's selected as the Conservative member to battle against at the next election.
He’s been a Labour party member, he was the spokesman on sport for the Veritas party. Now, Winston Mackenzie, brother of former boxing champion Duke Mackenzie, has thrown his hat into the ring to to fight for the position of Conservative candidate for the mayoral elections in 2008. Launching his campaign, Winston promises to stop the spread of the ‘virus’ that is the congestion charges. “the ‘C’ charge is a stealth tax and now with the thought of expanding this assassin into the community it makes life even more difficult so, if I was in office today, I would stop the spread of this virus, I would stop it going any further”. promises Winston. He went on further to say, “I will deliver to London the opportunity for people - those out there who have the skills, who have the ideas, to come forward .... There are people out there with innovative ideas to put forward with regards to transport". Speaking to our Croydon reporter Evadney Campbell, Winston stresses that although he has not officially been chosen as the Conservative candidate to challenge the Mayor, he is certain it’s only a matter of formality as he is the man for the job.
