Mother and daughter in 'Broken'

Eastenders star plays mistress in local film

Budding East End film maker has bagged big stars for her film on the British Greek Cypriot experience.

Based on the life of her grandparents in the 1960s, Director Vicky Psarias tells the tale of a 12 year old Greek Cypriot girl who comes to England to meet her father.

Young Chrystalla seeks revenge when she sees the father she idolises, cheating on her mother through her bedroom window.

"I want to put Cypriots on the map"

Vicky Psarias

Having an affair with an English mistress adds insult to injury, a part played by former Eastender Michelle Collins. Peter Polycarpou of Birds of a Feather and Evita fame also has a leading role in the film.

"Nobody's a bad guy in this film" says Vicky. "I really wanted to explore the theme of loneliness"

The film was shot in a 60’s inspired house in Leyton, in October. Local residents were thrilled to entertain a Hollywood style crew in their front gardens.

Vicky hopes the film will put Cypriots on the map like British Asian films have done for Asians in the past.  She hopes she can continue to win awards like she did for her first film 'Rifts.' A political comedy drama that tells the tale of two warring kebab shop owners in London, one Greek Cypriot, the other Turkish Cypriot.

This project was funded by London Borough of Hackney and Tower Hamlets borough council.

Broken will be at film festivals across the country from January 2007.
