Kevin Spacey interview

The Old Vic's artistic director speaks exclusively to BBC London in the run-up to this weekend's 24-Hour Plays talent challenge...

24-Hour Plays

On Sunday October 8, 2006, at 7.30pm Kevin Spacey and actress and comedienne Catherine Tate will introduce this year's 24-Hour Plays.

Over the previous 22 hours a host of professionals and new-comers will have written, directed and rehearsed six ten minute plays for the famous Old Vic stage.

All proceeds from the evening will go towards the theatre's New Voices project which supports young and emerging talent.

Tickets are: £75, £125, £250, £600.

For the third year running the Old Vic Theatre will be staging six short plays that have been written, directed and rehearsed in the previous 22 hours.

Featuring one-off performances by Vince Vaughn, Clare Higgins, Patricia Hodge, Tamzin Outhwaite and Greta Scacchi, this year's challenge aims to raise money to support young and emerging theatre talent.

Hot on the heels of reviews for A Moon for the Misbegotten, the Old Vic's latest production, in which he also acts, and ahead of the gruelling 24-Hour Plays, Mr Spacey spoke exclusively to BBC London's Brenda Emmanus.

He talked about his decision to sign up to the theatre for another nine years, his vision of the company's future and the state of play-going in the capital.

Kevin Spacey also talked at length about the specific challenges that the 24-Hour Plays create for crew and cast, and why he remains committed to supporting emerging theatre talent in London.
