The chairs, made from expanded polystyrene, went on display in Trafalgar Square until Thursday afternoon last week before being given away free.
The event was one of the highlights of this year's London Design Festival, which continues until the end of September. "Making a polystyrene chair has given me the opportunity to fulfill an ambition to make design available to all," said Mr Dixon. "This time literally, by giving away hundreds of these chairs to Londoners with absolutely no chains attached." Running over two weeks at more than a hundred venues across town, the festival is the capital's leading celebration of creative talent in the UK. keynote speech It covers a wide spectrum from fashion, graphics and furniture to textiles, architecture and manufacturing. Last year's festival was inaugurated by a 75-metre bench in Trafalgar Square using the Klee Klamp system and around 12,000 jumbo rubber bands, also made by Mr Dixon. The bench was reckoned to be the longest in the country. Among this year's highlights are a keynote speech by design guru Sir Terence Conran and a London-wide invitation to suggest design solutions that will make the capital a better place to live and visit.
