Switzerland v South Korea

Friday 23rd June, 2000 BST

New Malden's massive South Korea community went wild when their team reached the last four when they co-hosted the tournament in 2002. Expect similar scenes if they do well in Germany.

Since 1989 when immigration restrictions were relaxed the British Korean population has steadily increased to about 30,000.

Up to 20,000 live in London with the majority of them residing in New Malden. No-one knows why this particular south London suburb appealed to Koreans but restaurants selling Kimchi, shops, arts and community centres are dotted around the town. The library even stocks Korean language books!

The Fountain - 120 Malden Rd, New Malden, Surrey, KT3 6DD - 020 8942 1717

  • Click on the video link in the right hand column to find out how South Korean Londoners think their team will do.

Do you know anywhere else you can watch the South Korean team? Or perhaps you want to recommend a shop or restaurant or just cheer on the team?

..great draw against the French and the atmosphere in and around the Fountain was wonderful. ..I don`t think I`ve ever had a conversation with a Monk pre-kickoff before..
