He was in Australia because whilst we were married I banged on so much about my idyllic Australian childhood and what a wonderful country Australia was. So he left me and went to live there. | "In my case, it's been quite cathartic sharing anecdotes about a man who has the morals of an alley cat but the appeal of a film star." | | JoAnne Good |
His gain, my loss. Regular listeners will know the devastation this caused and critics will tell me to stop banging on about it! Towards the end of my stint on overnights he came on the line, from Australia, and sounded like a camp antipodean. It was with great joy that for the first time since I'd known him, I had total control. I could literally turn him on or off with one little move on the fader. That was two years ago and from that phone call I discovered he had married another four small blondes. But I was still lacking the finer details of his life after we split up. So imagine my joy when Dr Karl from Neighbours (Alan Fletcher) was a guest on The Breakfast show. My ex had a small part in Neighbours and had became good mates with Alan. Now, through the joy of radio, I could catch up on all the details of his life since he left me. It was a bit weird though sitting in a coffee bar talking to possibly one of the most internationally famous faces in soap opera about my private life. Presenters are often to be heard fleshing out their home life with mentions of the family and I suppose it's nice for listeners to be allowed in. The temptation is to give away too much information. In my case, it's been quite cathartic sharing anecdotes about a man who has the morals of an alley cat but the appeal of a film star. All this in the safe knowledge that he is thousands of miles away and ignorant of my rantings.

That was, until Dr Karl became involved! He returns to Australia this week, and will soon be able to tell him, over a coffee in Lassiters, that there is still a bitter, gobby first wife venting her wrath on the airwaves across London daily, through gritted teeth. May, 2006 |
