Volunteers ready for 2012
Volunteers celebrate London's win

Volunteer for your Olympic games

Give time to support London's preparations for the 2012 Olympic games and Paralympic games.

"I volunteered because I wanted us to win and I think it's a good idea to have the Olympics here - to boost the economy and to attract tourists to London." Those are the words of Margarita Pekareva, who has signed up to volunteer for the 2012 Olympics.

Margarita's friends Syed Ali, Delilah Rodrigues-Bokula, Priti Patel are from Newham, and have all given their commitment to the 2012 games.  They volunteered even before the announcement was made on on July 6th.

There is plenty of work to do for volunteers. In the next seven years, there is the chance to help prepare facilities in East London, and to help train athletes. During the games itself, marshals and guides will be needed in the Olympic village. There will be plenty of other volunteering opportunities, and you can click to give time whenever you want.

Margarita also had the opportunity to sit in the audience of a BBC London outside broadcast the night before the big vote, and she was interviewed live on air by BBC London presenter Emily Maitlis. Margarita says: "People should know about East London and this will put Newham on the map."
