The women and girls of the Lord Nelson prepare for their maiden voyage.
The first all-female crew to compete in a Tall Ships race will make their maiden voyage at this year's event, which is being hosted by Liverpool - the European Capital of Culture. The team of 50 women and girls will be made up of 40 girl guides, none of whom have any previous sailing experience. Several of them have disabilities.
They will be led by Captain Clare Cupples Lord Nelson and her crew of ten professional female sailors. The Class A vessel was world's first ship to be specifically designed and built for people with physical impairments. They will set sail for the first race on Monday 21st July, heading for the port of Maloy in Norway.
