The venue, Liverpool's own Baby Blue played host to the historic Rawhide Comedy Club and it was an intimate affair.

Compere Mick Ferry confidently took the mick out of a quite brutal, lock stock looking front row, some might say he was rather courageous.

I felt this guy stole the show, but then again I think I, along with the audience were endeared by his crude Wigan inflection. Mick got the crowd going to say the least and did above and beyond the call of duty for the evening; I would very much like to see his solo show.

First on was an Irish comedian by the name Neil Delamere. His opening was something along the lines of how he would like to rob a bank and do awfully rude things in the bank with an animal…GASP…silence across the audience who could not believe his dirty mouth. He wanted to do this only to see it re-created on Crimewatch, genius!! The crowd roared in great relief after not knowing the direction of his seemingly risqué humour!

Second up was the Bristolian Russell Howard, whose sheer first glance was amusing. He had a rather geeky, none to serious way about him, with a cheeky Alan Partridge stage persona. I fear for his safety as he also ripped into the aforementioned lock stock front row with absolutely no apprehension he made them the butt of the jokes, he was arguably the best stand up of the evening.

And finally, our very own Mr John Bishop who had to win back his local fans after a move to Manchester was not pleasantly accepted. John seemed to be your average funny guy from your local pub, there was no big barrier between comedian and audience. It was like he was sat having a beer on your table causing a stir of giggles.

His relaxed demeanor was good in some ways but it often felt like this was a show that was unrehearsed, rather Ad lib. There were very few poignant gags that spring to mind and so I didn't feel he lived up to the headline expectation. However it did not ruin the evening by any stretch of the imagination. The audience immediately warmed to the Scouser who wasn't afraid to jest about himself to score more laughter from the audience. It's a surprise we didn't run out!

Overall a smashing night of comical genius that left Cheshire Cat grins on the chops of many so they could go forth into the weekend on a great note.
