This years Liverpool Comedy Festival runs from 27th June to 13th July. The festival is bigger than ever with 82 performances across 22 different venues.

'Slappers and Slapheads' is at the Royal Court
The highlights of this years festival include Peter Kay at the Kings Dock, last years Perrier Award winner Daniel Kitson at the Laughterhouse, and Les Dennis who will be returning to his hometown for the first time since the 1980's.

The festival also sees the launch of 'Slappers and Slapheads', a new play set in a Liverpool nightclub which follows the fortunes of three lads and three 'ladies' all out on the town, and out on the pull.

Amongst the one man shows at this years festival will be Perrier nominated Phil Nicholl and Jimmy Carr. Many of the performers at this years Comedy Festival will be performing at the Edinburgh Festival in August including Daniel Kitson, Reginald D Hunter, Adam Bloom, Andy Parsons, Lucy Porter and Keith Carter.

In addition there's 'Drink Up, Stand Up' a comedy pub crawl and 'Ferry Funny', stand up performances on the Mersey Ferries.

BBC Radio Merseyside will be broadcasting five original ten minute comedies each weeknight at 6.30pm. The project is a collaboration between the Unity Theatre, Liverpool Comedy Festival, and BBC Radio Merseyside funded by BBC Northern Exposure.

Les Dennis returns to Liverpool

will be introduced by local VIPs, while Alfie Joey's Mini Cabaret will take place in his car (only four seats available every night).

On July 11th the final of 'Stand Out', the Liverpool Comedy Trust's stand up course for 14 to 18 year olds across Merseyside. The final takes place in LIPA's Sir Paul McCartney Auditiorium, with the winner being chosen by a panel of judges.
