Genie Queen are a new pop sensation from Liverpool who are based in Merseyside, and have been groomed for success by former OMD frontman and Atomic Kitten creator Andy McCluskey.

The girls spoke to BBC Radio Merseyside's Tony Snell in a recent live interview and described how the band got together and what they are up to over the next few weeks.

Genie Queen are Abbey Clancy (17) from Croxteth Park, Lauren Blake (19) from Halewood and Anna Ord (16) from Oxton. The girls got together via the funky 'Bulletproof' boutique clothes shop in the city centre.

"When girls would come into the shop that I liked the look of, I would ask them if they could sing!" says Abbey, "I just had a strong feeling about Lauren and Anna."

To show their commitment to the band, Lauren and Abbey have given up their jobs to work on Genie Queen full-time. It's hard work but fun to be taking singing lessons, dance classes, recording songs, performing on stage and travelling around the world.

This week, Genie Queen are jetting off to Stockholm to work with a production team who have written songs for Westlife and Gareth Gates among others. They have also recently signed to White Noise Limited, Andy's McCluskey's newly established record label.

"I get approached by a lot of people." said the pop guru, "I told Abbey she should go and get a band together and I thought that would get rid of her, but she has amazing determination, and came back with Lauren and Anna. I figured I would have to be pretty stupid to ignore an opportunity like this one."
