On most
occasions if rock and roll connoisseurs were to hear in a line of
the very first song of gig, the lyrics:
"If
the night time is the right time
Oh anytime of yours is my time."
Then
it is usually a case of heaven help you if you are between them
and the exit. However, when the song is 'Caroline' and the band
is Status Quo exceptions are always going to be made. With their
stonking guitar riffs and vibrant stage antics, the Quo get away
without receiving a mere flinch from the adoring audience. You'd
have thought that in their 35 year history, having played over 4,800
live shows to an estimated audience of over 23 million people, they
would be fed up and be stale by now. This could not be further from
the truth.

| Francis
Rossi: still rockin' |
There
was a well thought out mix of old classics like 'Forty-Five Times
Hundred' and 'The Wanderer', before Francis Rossi informed the crowd
that they were going to play some tracks from their new album (Their
best in years according to him) 'Heavy Traffic'. The melodic and
slower than average Quo tune 'Creepin' Upon You' and the topical
'Heavy Traffic' will have tempted a few people to invest in the
latest album. However, when they showcased the standout track 'All
Stand Up (Never Say Never)', where Rick and Andy had everyone accompanying
with vibrant handclapping which took things to another level and
this simple yet infectious chorus contained in the title had the
place well and truly rocking. Judging by the crowds' reaction it
will be difficult to keep this song off of future Status Quo greatest
hits albums.
The
evening reached a high with established hits coming one after the
other: 'Down, Down' and 'Whatever You Want' pleased the masses,
before the main set was concluded by the timeless 'Rocking All Over
The World' sung with exuberance and passion. An encore including
a version 'Rock And Roll Music' confirmed what most people already
new: that the Quo still rock.
