The
Battle of the Atlantic will be commemorated with a weekend of events
centred around the Mersey from May 2nd to May 5th.

The 60th anniversary of the Battle Of The Atlantic will be commemorated
in a weekend of events on the River Mersey. Warships from eight different
countries will visit Liverpool for the event which will be the final
time The Battle Of The Atlantic is commemorated.

The Royal
Navy aircraft carrier HMS Invincible will lead the warships visitng
the Mersey, Invincible will be joined by ships from Belgium, France,
Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Poland and Russia.
Royal Marine Commando's will perform a hostage rescue display and
an unarmed combat display on the river in front of the Albert Dock,
followed by a Nimrod flyover.
Several of the warships will be open to the
public and there will be a variety of military shows taking place
around the Albert Dock and the Pierhead.

Warships at Birkenhead open daily from 10am. See a Battle of
the Atlantic U-Boat (U534) sunk by the Allies and raised after
48 years on the seabed. An admission charge is payable |
