Elvis
was at a press conference in 1956 when a then unknown 17-year-old
photographer named Lew Allen called out to the great man - 'hey
Elvis'...
Elvis
turned to him and Lew took the shot above which is known as 'Elvis
Stares'.
This
is just one of the many incredible photographs you can see at 'Early
Rock' - an exhibition which displays previously unseen and unpublished
images of Elvis Presley and other major Rock n' Roll stars from
the 1950s - including The Everly Brothers, Bobby Darin, Buddy Holly,
Dion and many more!

At
it's recent press opening, Mike McCartney commented that 'Elvis
Stares' was his favourite image on display. It all started when
Elvis visited Cleveland, Ohio in 1956. The eager Lew Allen gained
free reign access to the backstage area of three concerts. He produced
exciting, candid work which built his reputation, and consequently,
he went on to shoot other music stars, on stage, off-stage in dressing
rooms and on tour buses. The raw, youthful spirit of the early rock
n' roll years is harnessed in these photos, it is tangible, and
not to be missed!
Now
these breathtaking high quality photographs can be seen together
for the first time from Wed 3rd December 2003 through to spring
2004 in Liverpool's Albert Dock. So get down there for a precious
slice of nostalgia with the rock n' roll stars of yesterday!
