Small concert room
Take to the stage

The shape of this room was prescribed by Elmes. The interior however, is completely Cockerell's work.

The room has a capacity of 1,200 and the stage was designed to accommodate an orchestra of 60 performers and a semi-chorus of 70.

Seating
The current seating is from the 1930's - a cast off from a cinema.

The room's fabric is deceptive and much of the decoration is not wood, marble or stone but made from plaster.

The entrance hall has a frieze based on the Parthenon, but does include one slight aberration - a man in what appears to be a bowler hat on a horse!

Frieze
A traditional Greek bowler hat.

Refurbishment will make the room safe to use for concerts once again and a lift will be added to provide disabled access.
