Matt Lammin and the Together choir
BBC Introducing: Together
Together are an all-female pop choir emerging from the Wirral Grammar School for Girls. With a repertoire that includes their own material, they want to be seen as a ‘girl band on a large scale!’
‘Together’ are a pop choir based in Wirral. Over the past year they have performed at venues such as the Crowne Plaza, the Anglican Cathedral, Pacific Road Theatre and the Williamson Art Gallery in Birkenhead.
Most notably, Together also reached the bootcamp stage of X Factor after getting through all the pre-auditions where three judges said yes and Louis Walsh said no! Choir director Matt Lammin says that they had a lot of fun.
Not your typical choir
Together are not a sacred choir, a gospel choir, a classical choir or a traditional choir. On X Factor they asked to be seen as a "girl band on a large scale"! Together are aiming to redefine the normal connotations of the word and admit that they are actually a choir, but not just any choir.
A girl band on a large scale.
The choir was started at Wirral Grammar School for Girls by musical director Matt Lammin. There are about 28 members, all girls aged between 14 and 17. Matt says that the plan is to keep performing at different venues and to collaborate with artists in order to provide backing vocals for them.
“The aim is to keep being really artistic and innovative with what we do” says Matt, “we want to help show that choirs can be funky and accessible to cool kids who want to sing what is relevant to them.”
