By taking criticism and using it positively, he feels he is growing in his career and his approach to music. Emocean, born July 1986, is a hip-hop artist from Croxteth, Liverpool. From an early age, Emocean was interested in music, singing along to tracks by the Pet Shop Boys, Phil Collins, Michael Jackson, and Vanilla Ice on a home karaoke system. After hearing about rap artists like 2Pac and Notorious B.I.G from school friends, Emocean soon became lost in rap music and would spend all of the money from his newspaper delivery job on buying CDs. Help playing audio/video It wasn't until 1999 that Emocean started to develop as an artist. Finding inspiration in the works of Eminem, Emocean started writing his own lyrics. He started recording at home using some free computer software and a microphone that cost just £6. In 2001, Emocean felt confident enough to release his first demo. Using criticismEmocean soon began sending his demo to local labels, one of whom responded by telling Emocean to give up and get a job. Emocean turned these words of criticism into the motivation he needed to improve his abilities and recording quality. After investing money into an impressive home recording studio, Emocean felt confident enough to release another demo, which was listened to by local artist MC Inferno. Inferno quickly signed him to his local independent label Mersey Street Art. Emocean recorded 2 tracks with MSA before leaving to form LockDown Entertainment. Recently, Emocean released his first mix tape called 'My 1st Mixtape' free of charge. He has also been known to drive around Liverpool and St Helens town handing out free copies. Emocean is now working on his 2nd mix tape/Album 'MasterMind'. Emocean would like to thank everybody who takes time to read about him and listen to his music.
