William Ralph Dean was born on January 22 1907, known as Dixie Dean, he was the most prolific goal-scorer in English football history. He played for Tranmere and Everton but it is his exploits for Everton that made his name. He scored 32 goals in his first full season with the Blues. Int eh 1927-28 season he became the first and only player in English football to score 60 League goals in one season. On Monday 22 January 2007 BBC Radio Merseyside will be remembering the legendary player and looking at his influence on football and Merseyside in particular. A must for Everton fans, obviously but also for true football fans of any persuasion.
