Armed with microphones, digi cameras and DV cams, plus a crash course in interviewing technique from the BBC Bus team, the TET group walked the streets looking for residents who were happy to volunteer their opinions for the record. “We know what we think of where we live” said Laetitia, as the group were preparing their interview questions. “The big problem for us is that there is nothing to do around here. Racism is still a big issue too. “We just want to know what other people who live around here are thinking.” They weren’t short of willing participants. Positive images Suhahala has lived in Toxteth most of her life. She told the group “I think racism is getting worse. When I go into the city centre I don’t see any black people working in the shops, or any black bus drivers, or any black people doing anything!”

“I would like to see more positive black people working and doing positive things. It would just make you feel prouder. I’d like to see more things for the young people. "On every street corner you go to I see a pub, a betting shop, and I see an off-licence. Well in-between the pub, the betting shop and the off-licence I would like to see something for the young people as well. I’d like to see this community grow.” |
