Liverpool 08 Open Squash Championship

May 1st - May 7th 2006, St George's Hall, Liverpool.


Qualifying is underway for the Liverpool 08 Open Squash Championship to be held at St George's Hall, which will see the biggest prized international ranking event in England for five years.

The prize fund of $77,500 has attracted stars from around the world to St George’s Hall to compete on the all glass court, and the event will be screened live on Sky Sports TV.

The semi-final on Saturday 6th May will be broadcast live on Sky Sports 2 at 6pm and will be followed by the final, on Sunday 7th May at 5pm on Sky Sports Xtra.

North West star James Willstrop will be competing in the PSA Super Series event. The 22 year old and No.2 seed has just returned from Austria after leading England to a successful defence of their European Championship.

Other international top players include former world No.1 Thierry Lincou from France, and top seed, David Palmer from Australia.

The qualifying field will see players from around the world battling for one of the 8 places in the 32-man draw. Talent from Egypt, France, Ireland, Germany, India, and Pakistan will all be taking part.

Local qualifying hopes are led by Andrew Breen and Merseyside brothers Ian and Ken Thomason.
