Billy Maher eases you into Saturday and Sunday nights with a mix of music and chat. Billy’s route to radio has taken a long and varied path. At school Billy’s main attribute was for Art , but then he trained to Degree level in Mathematics during a 34 year career in British Telecom’s engineering department. Billy worked for a period as the area training officer with responsibility for the future of over 1000 local apprentices. Every Saturday night at midnight Billy links up with an ex pat Scouser in Australia for a down under view on life. There's also the famous 'Beat The Duck' quiz. Outside of work Billy has always been a cabaret artist, treading the boards with his wife and best friend Billy Jackson in the Liverpool Trio ‘The Jacksons’. One particular highlight was the making of the film ‘Gumshoe’ where the trio would spend each day lunching at the Broadway Social Club with Albert Finney. During more than 45 years in entertainment, Billy has lost none of his enthusiasm. He runs a busy recording studio during the week where he puts his instrumental proficiency to good use, composing incidental music for the Redwall series of audiobooks written by fellow BBC Radio Merseyside presenter Brian Jacques. Billy has made 15 solo albums during the years, and the latest is called ‘Kidsongs’ – tunes from your childhood you never thought you’d hear again.
