Mark's music is a blend of acoustic aggression with aching melodies and acerbic lyrics. He played at the prestigious Islands of Song festival in Cork in March, and the AtlanticFest in Newfoundland Canada this year. He has appeared live on Swiss TV and opened up a three week UK and Irish tour for Stevo from the Fun Lovin' Criminals in November.
The music is across between Radiohead's 'The Bends' and James Browns 'Sex Machine' with a hint of 60s pop thrown in. Described by one reviewer as 'Damien Rice in a fight,' Mark is noted for his fantastic voice and songwriting ability. In his own words: "I am trying to do something raw and honest. To my mind, music is polished perfect these days, with any reality airbrushed out. We seem to be in the midst of a perfect culture, where everybody increasingly looks and sounds like everybody else, hiding anything which lurks underneath. So I eschew overdubs, auto tuned vocals and the likes. The tracks here are me, singing and playing live with just one acoustic guitar. One take. Raw. With mistakes, and any emotion I felt at the moment I played. Nothing else." |
