Liverpool FC

Steven Gerrard

Goodbye to Gerrard

By Paul Coslett
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has rejected the offer of a new contract and told the club that he wants to leave. Have your say here.

Gerrard Special 7pm-10pm - 95.8FM

BBC Radio Merseyside will be broadcasting a special programme covering Steven Gerrard's decision to leave Liverpool from 7pm -10pm this evening.

Presented by Gary Flintoff the programme will look back at Gerrard's career and look to the future for Liverpool and the player.

Tune in to 95.8FM or click on the listen live box on the right hand side of this page.

Steven Gerrard has rejected the offer of a new contract at Liverpool and told the club he wants to leave. Liverpool FC have issued a statement  which effectively ends all hope of Gerrard staying at Anfield.

The statement is short and to the point and reads

"The club has made it crystal clear we want to keep Steven at Anfield.

"Sadly, he has told us this afternoon he will not accept our offer of an improved and extended contract because he wants to leave Liverpool.

"We very much regret the decision he has taken."

Liverpool had offered Gerrard the biggest deal in the club's history worth £100,000 a week, and rejected a bid from Chelsea, Real Madrid are also reportedly interested in the 25 year old midfielder.

Gerrard also issued a statement which said: "This has been the hardest decision I have ever had to make."

He added: "I fully intended to sign a new contract after the Champions League final, but the events of the past five to six weeks have changed all that. "I have too much respect for the club and people at it to get involved in a slagging match."

Steven Gerrard's future at Anfield has been the subject of speculation since last summer, speaking yesterday Red's boss Rafael Benitez said ""For the moment we will try to do things properly. We are doing things properly. He is the first player with two years left on his contract who we are talking with. The players we have spoken to so far only had one year left on their deals.

"We recognise that Steven is a key player for us. He is a special player, a match-winner, and there are very few of those around."

"We don't need more money - we don't need to sell Stevie," he told www.liverpoolfc.tv.

I never want to see steaven gerrard to leave liverpool he is their best midfilder

Shaun Murphy-Brisbane, Australia
The King is dead. Long live the King "Carra". We will miss you Stevie, but not as much as you'll miss us.

Sonia, Japan (but I'm a scouser!)
Gerrard has always been praised for being a loyal red. The news that he's leaving, even after winning the Champions' League, is not going to help his popularity with the football fans.

Keith Harris
It was only a few weeks ago he was happy to stay at the club after the Champions League win. It makes a mockery of having a contract if he is allowed to leave. But at the end of the day if 100 grand a week isn,t enough good riddance.

Andreas Nangolo
If we could count the list of some of the respected player that left Anfield, only few has done better, owen, mcamanmana are still struggling to find a regular place. The move it can be good, but it will be difficult to win the heart of the fans instead their own hero at their club.Be wise in making such kind of long term decisions.

Barri Dullabh-Wellington, NZ
If Steven Gerrard goes to Chelsea, all he's doing is trading one team of foreigners for another. If it's ambition...fine. We can live with that. But if it's only money...that's probably bordering on greed. He earns in a week more than most earn in 2-5 years. It's sad...but I can't help thinking that we've heard this all before...last year with Michael Owen going to Real Madrid. Are things all okay in the boardrooms of LFC?????

The-Other-Stevie
I don't think Steven G had the intention to stay all along. I think he should leave now. Liverpool can do without him. I honestly believe he will taste the "bitter pill" that Owen tasted--watching Liverpool winning the big ones, this time his coveted EPL crown. Besides, if he win all the trophies in the world with world-class players around him whether in Real Madrid or Chelsea, does it make him a greater player? Is that kind of achievement worthy?. A truly great player makes a difference to a team, not a team makes a different to him. Example: Maradona with Napoli.

James
Time for Stevie to go. No one can ever be bigger than the club, so its time for him to be sold. Am very disappointed to see him go, but don't believe what you read in the papers, we are by no means a one man team (which Fleet St seems to print week in week out) and in Xabi have a phenomenal young player. 35 million could buy us a quality winger (Mr SWP or Duff?), another central midfielder (Essien to annoy Chelsea) and a new Hyypia of a centre back. Very sad the way the whole thing has panned out, was so pleased to hear him say "How can I leave after this?" after Champs League glory, and have always thought Stevie was of the old school i.e. retains some loyalty. But sadly not. Thanks for the memories and make it Real not Chelsea for gods sake.

mike
He's been holding the club to ransom for 12 months with his "will I stay or will I go routine". The club is bigger than Steven Gerrard. Leave and let RAFA get on with building a team without you.

canadiansupport
stevie goes to madrid he can keep bench warm with MO - real chews up talent and spits them out 6 months after signing for next hot player - chelski - terry and lamps only make 90k a wk if stevie wants more money i see some tension here. stevie deserves mourinho. every big player thatleaves reds ends up doing nothing as big with next team. show you what "team" can do for those who leave. enuff whining. go reds!! carra for skipper. and spend some of that money on ballack.

Unknown ?
Micheal Owen was my favourite player until he left and now I think little of him. I then liked Gerrard but looks like he's heading in the same direction as well. I do think 100 000 a week is fair. All these big clubs are running down hill and Liverpool have or are just rising and it takes a pretty big nutcase to leave Liverpool now.

fra.b
i dont even support liverpool i support arsenal and i dont want to see him go i want him to stay at liverpool he is a great player and is gettin treated like a god at liverpool and he grew up there and always stupported the team whats the point of him going to chelsea he might be seated on the bench all the time all he knows

Keith, Walton
If you are looking for a scouser who scores goals from midfield and has passion then look no further than Kevin Nolan. He may not be a direct replacement for Gerrard but with quality players behind him allowing him to go forward ?

antonio - wales
Liverpool showed why football is the beatiful game in Istambul while Gerrard showed why the modern game is a disgrace.

the badger
if he wants to go let him,but I hope it is going to be to a club abroad, not an english club.and he can't make anymore excuses, someone says he won the european cup for us, sorry, it was ateam effort, not just one man.

Polski Red
Whilst still in shock and a big loss for the Club it has to be said no player has been, is or will ever be bigger than LFC. Whilst angry my biggest sadness over all this is the fact he is unwilling to be honest with the millions of fans who have worshippped him. To blame the Club is a slap in the face for all these fans. I am also sure that wherever he ends up (and I believe it will be Real)he will never be truly happy. For LFC it is a new era without the millstone of worrying whether 'he' will be happy or not from week to week. YNWA to all the players who love the Club, Rafa and to the best Fans in the world.

J.Cochrane
Pure greed. If Gerrard walks he will without a shadow of doubt go the same way as McMannaman,Fowler and most recently Owen...into oblivion sitting out most of the season on the bench, but if it's only the money he's interested in then let him go,let him turn his back on his loyal fans and HIS city's team, but let him remember NO ONE PLAYER IS BIGGER THAN THE TEAM HE PLAYS FOR.

Raghav
Gerrard is a fantastic player and has given good service to the club. I also do belive that there must have been something going on behind the scenes that influenced Gerrard's decision to leave the club. Maybe it is other clubs trying to unsettle the player or maybe it is SFX playing their own game. In any case, the money from the Gerrard transfer can be used to buy two or three quality players that can make the Reds an all around better team.

kev h
Well it's been on the card's since last summer ,everyone hanging on his every word, now we can put it to bed. we have had better player's leave before, don't forget no player has every achived much after leaving liverpool!! jamie C for captain!!!!!!

Lou
What I want to know is how did to lose him? They had him after the Champions league final! He said he didn't wan to leave...what happened?

charlie
Let him go if he wants to leave. He's been acting like a spoilt child anyway. He has won one of the biggest prizes that he said that LFC should always be challenging for, yet still he wants to leave. Therefore, let him go and get players with committement and discipline which he has been lacking all year. Let Rafa do a real professionals job, unlike a now ex-liverpool player who just complained all year and done more dodging than a politician.

Wayne
Stevie stayed last season when to be honest, with a new manager our expectations were not that high. I think that the club and the manager did well to get him to sign a new contract then because with the success of the champions league his market value has increased. Remember we lost Owen for peanuts in the last year of his contract. If he`s made his mind up we ought to say thanks a lot and move on. No one player is bigger than the club but that said let`s hope he goes to Madrdid and not to those mercenaries down south. YWNWA

Ravi Randeniya
Gerrard played his best football in his career at LFC. He will never peak again, because to do just that one has to have the heart behind it. I have not heard or seen such achievement when money is involved. Ask Owen if money pays to win trophies. Reds will move on to win more trophies under Rafa. Soon we will forget that Gerrard was ever at Anfield.

Barry Turner
I'm gutted, Steve is a special talent, honest, genuine with a tremendous sporting attitude. May he find what he's looking for in another club.No doubt about it true Liverpool fans will miss him/ Good Luck Steve

Steve
Gerard is a great player not a world class one. £32 million is a steal. I just hope Benitez buys at least a couple of British players otherwise Carragher may leave the following season (he will go abroad to seek some English speaking team mates?)_

BishyBoshy
One man doesn't make a team and we won games with and without him. Alonso is a great player and a better distributor of the ball. We might miss his goals but no one's bigger than the club. Carra was last seasons best player and harder to replace. If he wants to make the same mistake as Owen he'll pay the same price. Welcome to the bench Stevie.Lets get 40 million though eh!

Ariane - Norway
I don`t think he has taken the right decision, after all, Liverpool did win the Champions League and it seems that they are heading for a great season...!! The captian is turning the Red`s down, and that is not good! Everyone, including "Rafa", know that Gerrard is Liverpool`s best player, and that they need him!!! He is the driving force of the team, and he belongs in Liverpool.. I also think that if the club want it bad enough, they could manage to keep Gerrard there!! Nothing is impossible!

ash ash
I dont think he should leave because he is the heart and soul of liverpool

steve smart (Leicester)
"I knew you were gonna ask me that Geoff. Put it this way, I'll be having talks and it's looking good." Need I say more. I and all fellow Reds are totally behind Rafa, he will have us challenging for the title, that I have no doubt. He is very astute and very honest, as yesterday's press conference showed. We walk on.........but we will never walk alone!

Mel Williams
He should stay there is no other club he needs to be with.

rob morphet
He's not a true RED I want him to leave "TAKE THE MONEY RAFA"!!!!!!!!

luke - bristol
never before as a liverpool fan have i felt so let down and disappointed by a hero. Go to madrid, go to chelski, get on the front pages of ok and hello...Good Riddance

gary shiers
he mite be good but not £ 32 million good

Dave - Liverpool
Why do we continue to spend our hard earned money on people who cannot cope on £100,000 per week? Are we all mugs or what? I have recently spent my hard earned cash on strips for my children - Yes with Gerrard on the back because they wanted that. Will I get my money back out of Gerrard's next wages?

anon
liverpool fc is bigger than one player!! WALK ON WALK ON WALK ON

gary shiers
we need steven gerrard hes the best player ive ever seen play football hes a winner in my eyes

Keeny
I think its up 2 Gerrad if he wants 2 leave or not i like him even though i dontsupport liverpool he is 1 of my favourite players 4 another team

TRUE RED!
Gerrard made his mind up a long time ago in my view, definetly a money thing! Blaming it on the club, by saying that they are not commited to him as much as he wants is rubbish.. Plenty of talent in the world use the money wisely and we'll find players that are jus as good!! Gerrard is not bigger than the club.. He was never a true RED!!

Kevin
After winning the Champions League, he said it was very hard to leave such a good team. However, it happens all the time in the football circles. And we might have known this saddest thing would happen to us. We have to accept and respect his decision. All we can do is to hope his future is filled with a lot of glories.

Peter W
Stevies Going so what! Long live Cara and the real Redmen

Gazza
Yes the Club didn't open talks with him as he raised the trophy, but that's a tactic - they let the dust settle, rather than having to offer him £150k a month (rather than the paltry £100,000 he has been offered). As said elsewhere, every reason he claimed for leaving has now vanished. The truth is, he wants to be seen to be a great player, playing for the great clubs. Liverpool are one, but he'd prefer to win the Champions' League with Real next year, and maybe AC before he retires. It's a legacy thing (plus his agent will reap more this way). Either way, he should just come out with the truth.

Dipesh
I am absolutely gutted! I honestly believed he would stay especially after he said "how can i ever leave a club like this that has just won the european cup". Absolutely gutted! I think that he has left because of money factor and his agent, maybe we will no the real reasons in time but Stevie has been exceptional and served the club with great memories over the years and best of luck to him wherever he plays now. Benitez has already shown we can win without the likes of Owen, well we can win without Gerrard. I think Carragher must be made captain now and Benitez must use the money he gets now to bring in some more quality players who have the heart and passion to play for LFC. LFC 4 LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Peter W
Stevies Going so what! Long live Cara and the real Redmen

Paul - Birmingham
Steven knows how important he has been over the last couple of years and now he has tried to hold the club to ransom. I hope he goes to Spain and ends up sitting on the bench every game. This whole saga has left a very bitter taste in my mouth. We support Liverpool FC not Gerrard FC.

Jack Blakemore
I could understand Rooney's reasons for leaving but not Gerrard's.Liverpool have delivered what he asked for, so there must be undertones from outside influences (I never mentioned agents). Let him leave I say. Shankly would have had him out by 5pm today!

dave
let him go to chelsea he won,t be the star man there they have to many stars ,he decided last year this was his final season of course it is about money nobody works for nothing 'we will boounce back we did after owen we got the best manager that anybody needs .ive got to say in is defence that he has been a good servent for the club ,lets cash in and get some other players in one man don.t make a team ,

Dazza (Essex)
Steve Gerrard served us well, put his heart into every game, but now he wants a new challange. People say his after the money but he turned down £100k a week last year to win trophies at liverpool and now he has done this with the biggest trophy in club football. Just hope we get £40m of Real Madrids money to spend on new players instead of chelsea.

martin
He asked us to win trophies,we win the big one.He asks for better players, we sign them. All of this was a smokescreen. He wanted to go all along. If he had been at the Liverpool-Chelsea game i was at in 1993, i doubt whether he would sign for them after the appalling abuse their fans aimed at us.If he goes, we get a great fee for someone we brought through, and Rafa will plough that money into strengthening us in every area.Who knows, the fee we receive from Chelsea/Real may help us win the title!!

Bryan
I feel sick. He has turned his back on the club and fans he so-call loves. He says he wanted to stay after lifting the CL cup. That obviously means nothing to him. Money is the only object here. Liverpool were building a team around him and were about to make a fresh challenge on the Premiership. We'll have to do it without him now.

K-Bag Bob
I don't want to see any player, no matter how good they are, even train in a Red shirt if they aren't 100% committed to the cause. Shanks will be turning in his grave. Sell him tomorrow.

Martin
I think he made this desicion a long time ago. The emmotion after the final was just that..emmotion not reality. To me as a lifelong Liverpool fan from Mossely Hill and a kopite its very sad that there seems to be no idealism, loyalty or romanticism left in Football. What more can a young man want £100,000 a week , adoration of the fans, captaincy , a modern intelligent manager, oh and a European Cup. I think lots of kids in Liverpool will feel very let down and had their dreams ruined

kevin judge
Firstly he was useless for most of last season apart from the odd game. Underneath it all he wanted to leave last season but didnt have the bottle. Chelsea might not get him yet Madrid is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Kevin Keegan left and the club still carried on aslong as we spend the money well it could be the makinig of us. He could have broken his leg in pre-season anyway. It all boils down to heart if his heart aint in it like it wasnt last year really then lets get rid. Michael Owen left and we won the biggest prize in football !

Mike - Kirkby
The only reason he has ever given is that he wants to win Trophies. He has won every honour with LFC apart from the Premiership. He has been orchestrating this move for a long time, its obvious his motivation is money not Trophies. I and the majority of supporters are tired of this saga and are all behind Rafa and LFC not SGFC.

keith
I am sure that something has gone on behind the scenes. Surely it is not purely money. No doubt we will find out when he writes an autobiography. Anyway it now leaves us with a new hero Jamie Carragher who must be made captain. Come on you reds... YOU WILL NEVER WALK ALONE

John Harwood
He has wanted to leave for a long time, to his probable surprise we won the Champions League (excuse gone)Rafa signs quality players (excuse gone)We offer him a club record wage £20000 a week more than Chelsea (excuse gone)Plainly he has run out of reasons why he can't stay. Thats ok Stevie no one resents you WANTING to leave, but dont make out it was LFC that forced you out or lacked the quality or ambition you require in a club.

Colin Ryder
Absolutely gutted when I heard the news. How can a Liverpool born and bred supporter who plays and captains the club want to leave. We've just won the biggest trophy in club football for gods sake and signed some decent players. he's been offered a kings fortune to stay and says no. Some people would give an arm and a leg to even play 1 minute for the club let alone have the team built around you. Forget Spain, forget Chelski stay at home !!!!!!!!!!

John
I can't believe it! I am as gutted as anyone but people need to be fair and say good luck to him. At the end of the day he won the European cup for us. That night will remain one of the best I Will ever remember.

FIELD
Now we know the score!! I hope he doesn't go to Chelsea, as I wouldn't like him to stay in the Premiership. If he does we will all be able to see that he and Lampard are too similar to play in the same side. We should be looking for £35M-40M for him, and get a top class midfielder and centre back. Carra for Captain.

ROBBIE G (LEICESTER)
I WISH A PLAYER LIKE STEVE GERRARD WOULD STAY BUT THEER IS NOT LOYALTY IN FOOTBALL NOWADAYS. DURING THIS WHOLE SEASON STEVE'S PROBLEM IS THAT HE WANTED TO BE PART OF A SIDE WHO CAN WIN THINGS E.G THE EUROPEAN CUP, THEN HE WOULD STAY WITH A CLUB WHICH WAS SHOWING THOSE SIGNS TO GET TO THIS GOAL. LIVERPOOL DID BETTER AND ACHIEVED THAT DREAM OF A EUROPEAN CUP IN THE YEAR WE WERE SUPPOSED NOT TO BE STRONG ENOUGH. WELL VICTORY TO THE RED AND ALL THAT BUT THE MONEY BOYS FROM CHELSEA NOW LURK IN THE BACKGROUND PROMISING EVEN MORE DREAMS, BUT WHAT HAPPENED TO STEVE'S PLEDGE TO STAY IF THE TEAM IMPROVED AND STARTED TO BUILD? STEVEN CANT WAIT OR GREED NOT LOYALTY IS THE NATURE OF THIS STORY. LIVERPOOL OFFER 100 GRAND CHELSEA WILL OUT BID THAT, HOPE HE DOES THE DESENT THING AND LEAVE BRITAIN, STEVEN GERRARD WAS ONCE MY HERO.

Robbo
we won without Owen, we can win without Gerrard!!! Liverpool till I die.

John Keatley
I don't understand it. He's a Huyton lad, a red all his life and now he wants to leave. I know kids from all over Merseyside who would give their right arm to be in the position he had. £5.2M a year?? That's not enough????What is going on

Stu Frodsham
Will he be big enough to face the fans and explain his decision? We can't blame him for wanting more money and wanting more medals, but why doesn't he want those from Liverpool FC? Get rid for the Maximum amout of cash we possibly can!

Rosli Ahmad Dasuki
If his heart is not wih LFC, then let im go. It's his decision. Owen's gone and we lifted the Euro Cup... Stevie's gone and we WILL lift the Premiership ! Long Live The REDS !!!

Davey B
I see its Liverpool's Wayne Rooney

Ken Williams
Can't blame Stevie wanting success. LFC is going to be a team of Spaniards, Gerrard wanted more home grown players n his team. Benitez just wants success and if that means cheaper foreigners, that is what he will get - and £35 million for Gerrard will get a lot

keith hughes
i'm sickened by this, as i see it absolute betrayal of the fans of Liverpool. Is there no loyalty left. how can he change his mind after that night in Istanbul. no matter what he does from now on he will always be remembered for the way he turned his back on his home tow club. Judas is not too strong a word to use !!!!!!

Andy from Bristol
Angry above all. I can't comprehend why he would leave the club and city and at his roots ... that love him. Stevie was the heart and soul of the last year's historic team - he's clearly had this on the agenda for some time - we have to ask has he looked happy in his game? It's quite underhand, and clinical and can't help but feel bitter.

John Stuart
not surprised at all,he is a fantastic talent, but never totally convinced me he was as committed to the club as he said, when liverpool won he was staying, when we lost he was going, he publicly stated we had no chance of winning champions league, not what the fans and manager want to hear from their club captain. He has won every honour bar the title at this club and its laughable to hear him say wants to win things! let him go to one of those "harlem globetrotters" circus teams like Chelsea or Madrid where success might come, but where is the achievement in that? The reds will improve regardless and look forward to happier times with a committed squad

John Kelly
Stevie is thinking he is bigger than the club i would love the man to stay on and take us to the title (which will do soon) but he wants to go sell him. Over 30 million get 2 more Xavi Alonso's an either a defender or an attacker. Nobody is bigger than Liverpool Football Club.

peter b
Thank god the sagas over...we now know he doesn't have the heart of a true scouser, maybe he was jealous of carra. Lets look to the future and forget the past as Rafa said when he first came the best players don't always make the best team and football is a TEAM game.

Pat
I reckon the signings Liverpool have made so far have not been enough to keep him. Let's face it - compare Liverpools targets with Chelsea/Madrid and you can see where the ambition is. It's not a critism of the club or the player - just the way it is. The only thing that annoys me is that the parties involved can't be up-front with the fans. Roll-on Liverpool.

Janet D
'How can I leave after a night like this?' Well tell us then. It sounds a bit like Rooney's 'blue through and through'I am really disappointed that once again the agents are the real winners.

mark of hull
stevie g should stay at the pool if he is a true scouser no one is bigger than lfc rafa will spend wisley if he goes&strenghten the team futher

madmik1
make him see out his 2 years contract but do not let him play even for the reserves

andrae
stevie's my captain, the heart of the team but i am sick sick and tired of this, if he wants to leave then go, i love liverpool if he's lost the desire to play for us it would'nt make any sense he stays "the fans dont deserve the mess"

Andrew from Australia
Stevie hasnt got one good reason to go for me. He wants to win trophies - we've just won the biggest one of all, he wants 100,000 a week - he can have that, he wants an improved squad, thats happening now clearly if rafa continues to sign more xabi alonso's - so why would the heart and soul of Liverpool want to leave?!?!?!

Jane
I am disappointed in Steven, if his heart was with Liverpool he would stay... it is his choice. He wanted European football, he's got European football.... so maybe money talks..???? Pity, I think he will regret this decision. I wish him well and am sad to see him go... Jamie Carragher for Liverpool FC Captain!!!!!

Patricia Hogan
No player is bigger than than Liverpool Football Club. Good riddance if his heart is not at the club. Whether it`s ambition or greed, life goes on and the supporters have to move on. Good luck Benitez for the coming season.

Fred Oldfield
I will be very interested to hear SG's 'reasons' for this decision and its timing. But remember Keegan, Souness, Rush, McManaman, Fowler. Owen? We thought we'd never survive without them.

IAN
David Beckham has nothing to show for the last two seasons at Real Madrid.Gerrard has been worshipped in his home town - an honour few ever achieve. The grass isn't always greener, as Mr M. Owen has learnt.

simon gowda
what happened? is steve wnated to stay as he indicated after CL final and rafa and rick parry wanteed to keep him at all costs what happened to cahnge his mind?

John
I do not want to see him go. I hate seeing players more concerened with wages than their club. You have really let us down lad.

Phil
Steven Gerrard is not interested in the club. He knows that Liverpool are a club on the up and he's only interested in money. I hope he enjoys his pay packet at his new club. After all, look at all the trophies that Michael Owen has won...

Robert Nash
He'll be getting my Liverpool jersey with Gerrard printed on it cut up in the post !! " I love Liverpool", " I want to win trophies" " I want to see we're going in the right direction " Load of bull !!!

paul mclean
Captain fantasic will be missed, he has been one of the best players since the "good old day's". he could have brought the premiership to liverpol.

Jacqui
I'm sick of Gerrard. If he loved Liverpool and was loyal he would stay. Goodbye and Good Riddance!

nick barwell
i think lioke michael he is making a big mistake .I have been a liverpool fan for 37 years and no player is ever bigger than the club it s players who want to play with there heart we want not for the pay packet.

Stephen G
Thanks For the goal in the cup final, but go now. You said your heart was in liverpool ? You said you wanted to be a part of a great liverpool side. Are these all lies steven ?? I think they are, cos it seems to me that your don't care about liverpool and its fans. I sorry m8 I for one won't miss you. We have proven we don't need you any way. They have proven this. Long Live Xabi Alonso !!!

GARY PATERSON
LET HIM GO. AND GET SOMETHING FOR HIM AND INVEST IT INTO THE CLUB. I AM CONTINUALY AMAZED BY THE CONSTANT GREED OF PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALLERS. DOES STEVEN GERRARD NOT REALISE HE HAS TURNED DOWN A CONTRACT THAT GROSSES IN ONE WEEK WHAT IT TAKES THE AVERAGE SUPPORTER IN THE KOP 5 YEARS TO EARN.

MARK
GERRARD SAID ITS MOST LIKELY HEILL STAY AFTER THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL NOW ITS MOST LIKELY HEIL NOT GERRARD WHATS YOUR PROBLEM MONEY ARE WHAT IS IT ???

J.N.
Liverpool will survive without Gerrard,£30M will get a suitable replacement. I think he has always wanted to join up with Owen at Madrid.

liam steele
gerrard is a great player and if he left liverpool it would not be the same club and the football wouldnt neither. he also may loose his reputation.

steve graham
I do not wish to see the back of Stevie G , but if he feels that his future is away from Anfield, then we should let him go, he owes us nothing. He has carried this club for the past 2 or 3 years , so let us appreciate what he has done, and not criticise him for planning his future.

kenneth moore
If he wants to go then he wants to go!Thanks for everything that you have done for us but please don't go to a premiership club, go anywhere else. £32 million, i would have settled for £30m Rafa has got us on the right track. a massive cash injection for 1 player will nhelp put the club back on top. Goodbye and Good luck stevie.

Tartan Red
Whatever the end result, I believe the club must take part of the blame. Steve raised a question, why wait until now to discuss his future? Parry got this one wrong as did Rafa. If its a business decision and they played their cards to their chest, I think its wrong, who is next seasons midfield muscle not?

Pam Y.Luka
Do you think Anfield is giong to collapes if gerrard is not there? Pls,kindly allow him to go,he may even be on bench while at chelsea.

Jamie D
It was always inevitable.

Kev Hughes
He,s had enough time now to make his mind up, so stop messing the club about and go, we shouldn,t suffer not with Alonso still there an ample replacement for Stevie

GARY
The thing is if he wants to go , GO NOW !! and dont do a michael owen and leave it until it is too late. Dont get me wrong I love stevie and wish he would stay with us for life, But I support liverpool football club, Not stephen Gerrard. If he goes move on, if he stays great.

Gerrard Cody
STAY GERRARD YOUR THE BEST PLAYER WE GOT WE CAN WIN THE PREM IF YOU STAY

mix
i think steven can leave what he did for club is enough now choice is his,

Rick
Think about all those quality players that will be queing up to play for the CL Champions, proud to wear the red shirt - let him go and buy the best.

Rupert Drew
Let him go - no one individual is bigger than the club - if he'd really wanted that red shirt (that he kisses so often) he would'nt be holding us all to ransom now. Good player - but good riddance.

Karen
Hes only in it for the money and not the love of the club. there are more foreign players interested in playing for liverpool as a club rather than for the wages. get rid of him you wont notice a difference.

JimD
If Gerrards heart isn't in Liverpool he should leave. He is a great player and it will be sad to see him go,Liverpool will still be a great team without him.All of us like to see local lads fulfill their dreams of playing for their childhood teams,Reality is that it is a "Business" and loyalty has a short lifespan. Look at what Rooney done to us.....

Stevie G has two more years to run on his contract,Liverpool FC have told him they want him to stay, so whats the almighty rush to sign a new contract? If stevie is so committed to Liverpool, 2 or 3 weeks should make no difference

Julian
If Gerrard leaves then so what..? He has been truly inspirational at times and yet also mediochre. Don't forget there are two other fitting replacements in Alonso and Hamann. If he does leave then what about Carragher for the new Captain? No danger he would ever leave..maybe Stevie should have a word.

Joan Martin
Didn't he say he'd never leave after winning the last big one?! What, is he trying to be like the American football players and it's only about the money?!!!!

Tony H
Gerrard will definitely go. He prepared us all for the move last summer so it wouldn't come as a shock. The emotion of the european triumph made him have second thoughts but I think it has been a done deal all season.

Dan
How can you hold Parry responsible for all this? This is all the agents' doing but Gerrard doesn't help by staying silent. Let him go for the sake of the team. We need to build a team to progress from last season, with or without Gerrard.

K BROWN
I he wants to stay he stays, if he want's to go get the best money we can and let him go. There is no point keeping him if he wants out, as good as he is.

Pat Jones
I'm his biggest fan but quite frankly I'm fast losing patience with his "should I stay or should I go" malarky. He expressed a definite commitment to the club after the Champions League final. He said he wants to play at the highest level - how much higher can you get ?

Scooby
Liverpool F.C. can not start evry season with speculation over STeven Gerrard. The emphasise at the start of each season should be on the Team. I believe Rafa Benetiz is trying to create that team ethic and all this is distruping that process. Steven Gerrard is a fantastic player but Liverpool throughout the years have lost similar if not better players and the club has continued. I think that gerrard himself should speak and make it clear what his current intentions are and not hide behind the murky shadow of an agent. Would you let someone say the talks have broken down and there is no way back on your behalf? I want the pre seasons of the future to be about Liverpool FC the club not about individuals.

For someone so lucky to have realised his dream of captaining the club he has supported since a child, winning the European cup with them and being paid obscene amounts of money for the privilege, you would think Gerrard had the worries of the world on his shoulders. Look at him. He always appears so utterly miserable. Surely he can’t be wondering where the next rent cheque’s coming from like the rest of us? All this speculation must be very unsettling to the rest of the team, it certainly is to the fans. If he wants to go, let him go. We have already shown we can manage without him. Look what happened to Everton after Rooney left. That said, I think football agents have to be stopped before they ruin football completely.

Dan Bloxham
Im surprised by what is going on and would be very disheartened if Stevie was to leave. Liverpool are now, hopefully, in a position to challenge for the premiership title and Im sure Stevie would want to be a part of it. Hopefully his Dad will convince him to stay put.

Sppadic
it will be a shame to lose gerrard..and i for one dun think its money..not when the club are bending over backwards to try and keep him...if gerrard thinks he can hold LFC to ransom he s mistaken! no player is bigger than the club--if he doent feel pride for the shirt..let him leave

Jhon
I think that stevie g will stay. if he goes we maybe able to cope. as we done against bayer levergusen in the first leg

tom hughes
I hope Gerard stays, he is inspirational and essential to the team and will attract other quality players to the club. If he goes then Parry mus also go as I hold him responsable

Tommy T
No one is bigger than the club. I blame his agency for trying to engineer the move. Come on Stevie commit to the team that developed you. Remember Istanbul !
