The
Prisoner Of War style cabins of Colomendy that have played host
to over 350,000 Liverpool schoolchildren are to change for ever.
Often referred to as Liverpool's 'Jewel In The Crown' Colomendy
has remained largely unchanged since it opned in 1939. Liverpool
City Council has committed itself to providing an Outdoor Education
Centre at Colomendy which befits the 21st Century.

The
redevelopment works are set to commence in 2004, and aim to be completed
by Easter 2005. Under the deal struck by the council, places for
Liverpool children will be protected for 30 years, with increased
bed spaces for non-Liverpool schoolchildren.
The proposed 500 bed accomodation will include en suite bathroom
facilities and a mjor upgrade of exisiting buildings to provide
a new reception and restaurant area.

site will be split in two with the old upper camp area protected
by a perimeter fence forming the basis of the new camp. The lower
part of the site will include a new watersports facitilty and there
are also plans to redevelop the existing old farm and Colomendy
Hall.
