Last year's
Mersey River Festival broke all records with demand so high that full-house
signs went up in the city's famous docks and new ships had to be directed
to the city's marina.
More
than 150 vessels are expected to attend the four day event. Twelve
tall ships will be visiting the city including The Grand Turk, Matthew
of Bristol and Bessie-Ellen.

The
Mersey International Shanty Festival will run alongside the river
festival with songs and music of the seas being performed in bars,
on shops, at the Albert Dock and on the world famous Mersey Ferries.
On Saturday 19th June, the Radio Merseyside Festival Concert will
feature Poland's Cztery Refy, The New Scorpion Band, The Keelers,
Hughie Jones and the Portsmouth Shanty Men.
The
Royal Navy mine-sweeper HMS Blyth will join HMS Charger from the
Liverpool University Royal Naval Unit along with many other vessels
ranging from the last steam tug to serve on the Thames to a global
charity ship Mercy Ship Anastasis.

Many
of the vessels will be open to the public throughout the weekend
from 11am - 4pm. In addition to the ships other attractions will
include the Merseyside Canoe Polo International, a fun fair, street
theatre and a display from the Battle Of Britain Flight.
Wirral too will be hosting events the tall ships Mir, Prince William
and the mercy ship Anastisis will visit Birkenhead's West Float
dock on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th June. The annual Wirral Kite
Festival will take place at New Brighton on Sunday 20th from noon
to 4pm.
