Quiggins to close
Boho emporium Quiggins is to finally close...

Instead a £750m redevelopment by Grosvenor Henderson will begin building work on the site later this year, including the historic Bluecoat Triangle site which Quiggins stands on.

Despite a petition of 100,000 names delivered to 10 Downing Street, Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott has made his final ruling - Quiggins has no further opportunity to appeal.

"Both Grosvener Developments and Liverpool City Council agree that Quiggins has an important contribution to offer to the make-up of the new city centre," says a council spokesperson.

"We have always maintained that a replacement premises can be located and are liaising with a number of businesses to this effect."

The Paradise Street Development Area (PDSA) will provide for a mix of uses including leisure, retail, residential apartments, offices, a meeting hall, gallery, two hotels, a new bus station, 3,000 car parking spaces and a new public park.

The existing facade of the building is expected to remain intact, yet four floors of shops selling a diverse range of unique items, from clothes to jewellery and antiques, will be forced to relocate or close altogether. Tell us what you think...

Is this the end of an era, or a bold new step forward?

For the first time today i went to Quiggins, im from manchester and here i was thinking that afflecks palace (in manchester) was like the only place like itself it was really cool in quiggins so much cheeper than afflecks, theres better stuff in the shops too.Maybe there could be some more shops added perhaps but i really dont see he need in shutting the place down its just stupid i wouldnt be supprised though the people responsable for this idea are probablly hipercrits and all 'Anti gots etc' its just out of order its orininal, an old building like afflecks palace, why get rid of it why not all the millions of chav markets etc! It works both ways.Anyway its just totally unfair really theres no need maybe somemore shop but for the place to close down would be so hypercritical theres no rule on earth that i know of that we should all look like one kind (dress 'NORMAL') What is normal? to me the way i dress.Quiggins is just a cool place.

Hasn't any1 noticed that the people who want to close down quiggins are nothing like the people who go there. I bet most of the poloticians have never even been 2 Quiggins and so have never felt the atmosphere. I bet that if they actually went thier with all af thier m8s just to hav fun they would feel the vibe and NEVER want to close quiggins down.

Quiggins is amazing, it's a vital part in our social life. I've spent so much money there. Why is it closing down??You wont close down somewhere BIG like 'Open' or 'Topshop' because 'normal' people are not against that sort of trend...but when it comes to quiggins its all different. Why?? Jesus teaches about equality...how is this equal? We chose to be how we want to be.Okay we like dark clothes&&bands you probably have never heard of.Just because we are not the same as most people you treat us different... I've been hanging be quiggins for years now, without it i dont know where i will meet my friends for a day out.Okay suure we have the kourts but whenever we go there police think we're doing something rong...and we're not!! The police focus the attention on us when they should be focusin their main attention on others i.e troublemaking scalls. I hate the why I personally am treated, and i am sick of it. 3 times on different occasions ive had to hide in quiggins from scalls.THREE! Liverpool getting Capital Of Culture was the worst thing that ever happened to this city. What would people like john prescott know about it?? i bet hes never BEEN here... Thanks for reading... LoRAWR xo.x

very much the end of an era. i am absolutely disgusted with mr prescott's ill-informed decision. he should be ashamed of himself.
