The
Face of Liverpool' project is a permanent piece of public art to
celebrate Liverpool's diverse culture and rich ethnic mix. It features
residents who have moved to the city from other countries and chosen
to make Liverpool their home.

The
project is being spearheaded by a design team consisting of local
artist and sculptor Stephen Broadbent, landscape architects BCA
landscape and designers Smiling Wolf, and was commissioned by the
Beetham Organization, as part of a £1.5 million architecture,
landscape and art project.
Among
the first eleven faces etched into the garden's blue glass 'portholes'
are a man whose Japanese grandfather (and Liverpool resident), was
Emperor Hirohito's cousin, a woman whose Russian grandparents were
re-united with old friends after a chance meeting in Liverpool and
a man who's Yemeni father arrived in the UK at Barry Docks, in South
Wales, fell in love and ran away to Liverpool to get married.
"We
are now searching for the final five faces to feature in the project"
says sculptor Stephen Broadbent: "In particular, we would be
very interested in hearing stories from people whose families have
made Liverpool their home from places such as America, Canada, Turkey,
Somalia, Scotland, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sweden, Baltic States,
Germany, Albania, Iraq, Australia or New Zealand."
