Here, there and everywhere |

| If
it's Beatle then chances are you can find it on the internet |

BBC
Liverpool has been investigating the burgeoning internet trade in
everything Beatle, and we mean everything. Money may not buy you love,
but it can purchase some wierd and wonderful things |
 |
|
|
 |
They say
that these days you can buy everything from a new beau to a new identity
on the internet - and pretty much everything else in-between, too
- so we thought it would be fun to see how much Beatles memorabilia
there is out there in the electronic world.
 |
| You
can buy just about anything |
And given
the global popularity of the fab four I was half expecting all of
their stuff to have been snapped up by eager buyers and collectors
long ago, leaving a gaping hole in what must be one of the most popular
trading markets in the world.
I even went as far to say that most people would have at least one
item of Beatles stuff in their house already.
I mean, in the same way my dad collects the annual Guinness Book Of
Records series, my mum still has some old Beatles vinyl knocking around
- even though there isn’t a proper machine to play any of it on!
But whether it’s through sentimentality or hoarding for wealth the
Beatles market is still a burgeoning one, and a cursory scout around
led me to a few cool discoveries. www.ebay.co.uk,
for example, has to rank up there as one of the best places to find
stuff, and the mini museum discovered was a revelation of all things
Liverpudlian, floppy fringed and famous…

| Errrmm,
there's no accounting for taste |
Most amusing
was a circa 1960s pack of authentic (real) chewing gum from America.
For £9.99 they were yours for the taking, and also - most reassuringly
- available in good condition (not chewed, then). You could also get
a 1969 advert for the Corgi Yellow submarine going for £12.99, and
there was also a fine assortment of sheet music from many of their
albums that could be picked up at cheap prices.
Available on Ebay was a memorable cartoon teapot. Not quite suited
for everyone’s taste, but none the less a good bit of fun, painted
by one Leon Garcia. And to compliment this a cartoon ash tray, a snip
at £2.99. A frankly astounding site was www.glyphmedia.com/beatles/
which had all manner of funky stuff - and lots of it! You could get
everything from a John Lennon Walls and Bridges badge (or button,
as the Americans like to say) for $30 through to old state-side newspapers,
picture sleeves, commemorative mugs and bubble gum cards, too. What
no true Beatles aficionado should be without were the Subbuteo figurines
- not playing football, but music!
They were $50, and truly a great addition to any mantle-piece. Overall,
I think most of the fun is in the searching. There’s a whole world
of stuff out there, and among the dial-a-brides and patented Miracle
No Hair Loss (and National Geographic polemics on Stag, Dung and Scarab
beetles) you can root out some pretty funky Beatles stuff - there’s
a lot of it! Happy hunting!
