The
red arrows has had a few crashes over the early years of their flying
that most people have forgotten or never heard of.
The
first crash was in 1987 where two of the planes had a wing tip collision
which caused them to plunge to the ground in the village of Welton
near Lincoln.
The
next crash was only three months later in January 1988 when one
of the planes failed to pull out of a roll and crashed killing the
pilot. After this the Red Arrows were banned from any future displays.
The
ban did not last long and in May 1988 the ban was lifted but there
were still more problems to follow. In June 1988 one of the planes
developed engine trouble on the runway causing the jet to catch
fire and forcing the pilot to eject.
Due
to the fact that all these events happend in such a short space
of time has made some people suggest that the Red Arrows were jinxed.
This view has been abandoned now because these crashes were so long
ago and the planes are still flying now so it looks like the jinx
has ended, well we hope ...
