As a non-smoker growing up in a family of smokers I am used to coughing and spluttering at the sight of a cigarette. Most smokers tell me that I'll get used to it, but I've had eighteen years to get used to it!

I have to admit that I am pleased with the idea of a smoking ban. I do believe that non-smokers should not have to put up with people constantly smoking in their faces while simply walking down the street.

And the sight of cigarette butts all over the floor is disgusting. Outside our accommodation flats you can tell when there's been a party because outside the front door there is a pile (often in the literal sense) of cigarette butts and ash.

It's enough to put you off your breakfast! However, this does face me with the problem of my mother, brother and boyfriend all hating my guts.

They seem to think that I don't want them to smoke anywhere near me, which in fairness has some truth, but hey, they can rot their lungs if they want to just try not to kill me in the process.

I don't like any person lighting up and covering you in smoke as soon as you walk out the door, so I definitely agree with a ban on smoking in public areas.

There should be designated areas for smoking, not for non-smokers! In my home town the only place you could smoke in the largest shopping area was a tiny coffee shop. Which was great! And nobody minded. At least they had their place.

Pubs are the worst place though. You can't go to any pub or club without smoke drowning you and the risk of a cigarette burning you on the arm or leg or the back.

I hate it when a smoker comes over to the bar and sticks his deathstick in your face and takes your place in line as you throw your guts up at the smell.

They make the dancefloor dangerous and the air stinks. And a student needs a good night out clubbing every now and again!

I propose that smokers have designated areas in public places to kill themselves, and the same for pub and clubs.

No smoking at the bar or on the dancefloor, get in the back and do it! People make choices in their lives, and in this case it is to attempt to kill yourself or not! And I choose not! So I shouldn't have to live with other people throwing their lives away in front of me.

I do not condone my mum or my boyfriend for smoking, though I wish they would stop immediately, but they respect my wishes and never smoke when I'm eating or such, and so should everybody else. So take your deathsticks idiots and realize your place.

Smoking in public places should be banned, except in designated areas. It should be totally banned in restaurants and any building used for serving and consuming food. The current ridiculous idea of having areas for smoking
and non smoking customers in restaurants and pubs that serve meals in pathetic. Only last week I was offered a non smoking table in a pub right next to an area of tables for smokers. I pointed out the stupidity of this to the management and walked out.

The committee of my village hall in South Kyme will not ban smoking in the hall. The hall is a wooden structure with a low ceiling and when you get 100 plus people in there it is disgusting. But it is the same old problem, getting somebody with the guts to make a decision. Can you really see the government introducing a ban, I don't think so. They eventually made a decision on Identity Card, a great big YES, in 2012, again, pathetic. Keep up the good work...people power does win.
