Final-year Illustration students Rebecca Sands, Sarah Gibbs and Wayne Lockwood have had their work displayed at London's Business Design Centre as part of the annual New Designers exhibition.

The exhibition took place across two weeks in June and July, with all the major design disciplines including illustration and animation, photography and ceramics and glass represented in either part one or part two.
Leading industry figures judged the exhibits, selecting the 2005 award winners from the 4,000 graduates whose work was showcased.

Sketch books
Rebecca Sands from Lincoln scooped the New Designers Tigerprint Award Part Two. She has been awarded £1,500 and a four-week placement at Tigerprint which is a division of Hallmark Cards plc and has been the sole supplier to Marks and Spencers for the past 10 years.

According to the judges it was Rebecca's quirky illustrations and fantastic sketch books as well as her great attitude which really stood out.

The 21-year-old also won the New Designers International Greetings Award, receiving £1,000 and a four-week placement at International Greetings, one of the world's leading designers and manufacturers of gift wrap, crackers, cards and stationery.

"New Designers was such a great exhibition, so inspiring and a great experience," said Rebecca. "I was so surprised to get the awards and it's nice to have something to show for all the hard work. I would really love to have a career in illustration and this is a great starting point."

Meanwhile Wayne Lockwood, also from Lincoln, has signed with leading London illustration agency Eye Candy and Sarah Gibbs from Knaresborough in North Yorkshire has been invited to apply for Hallmark Cards' work placement scheme.
