The
travelling bug was further satisfied with my own spell in
the forces which took me on special duties tours to the Middle
East and NATO.
I finally tired of the "orderly" life and left the
RAF in 1986 trying my hand at selling (insurance not very
successfully and property rather better).
By the late 1980s I was living a curious double life - Managing
Director of a new homes division during the day and Radio
Station "gofor" during the evenings (Radio Trent
in Nottingham).
Eventually, I made my way full time into radio as a freelance
sports reporter covering a range of sports for national networks
including an entire European Golf Tour.
That led to my first full time news job at Lincs FM when the
station opened in 1992. After two years as News Editor there,
I moved to IRN/ITN in London for a spell helping to run the
national sports desk.
In 1995 I opted for quality of life and came back to Lincolnshire
to join BBC Radio Lincolnshire and to marry my girlfriend
from Lincs FM, Jeannie. Aaaah.
Since then, I've enjoyed a spell working on TV - East Midlands
Today and News 24 and worked in a variety of roles at the
radio station culminating in my current spell on Breakfast.
