All the usual suspects were there who've patronised the comp from day one, but, as every year there were new faces from further afield to watch what the musicians had to offer.

What a mix of styles and takes on Lincolnshire we were treated to. From Clarty Sough's 'The Iron Miner's Song' with it's traditional folk vocal and rhythm style to Doonvarna's 'Slash Hollow' - a song the Levellers would have been proud of, to Paul Bellamy's and Mark Campbell's brilliant guitar playing and harmonising vocals on 'The Lincolnshire Ploughboy'.

As David Start from Heritage Lincolnshire and a man who has judged every BBC Folk Song comp said on the night just before the top three songs were announced, "Everyone's a winner tonight".

Well, overall winner was Dave Evardson with 'A Lincolnshire Family'. Second was Bill Whaley and Dave Fletcher with 'Follow The Drum' and Doonvarna came third.

It was also the second year of the Musicians Union Performance Prize - this was not for the song itself but for the performance by the band or artist - going this year to Webbed Foot a colourful dressed band who certainly moved on that stage when they performed their upbeat song 'Waiting for the Hainton Straight'.
