Data
Records and Ministry in general had a great year in 2002,
as each of their releases drew mass appeal on both the dance
floors and the charts. This trend looks to continue as April
28th should see "Loneliness" from Tomcraft hit the
shelves, almost a year since it was pressed on to fifty white
labels and given to the DJs at last years Love Parade.
Originally
owned by German label Kosmo this track was destined to be
distributed under a major label as it appeals to the Trance,
Electronic and House fans almost equally. Electro and Trance
blend like tequila and lime and will hopefully help bring
Trance out of the "rip off old pop tune and wack on a
trance beat" style of dance that the likes of Flip and
Fill have seemed happy to pimp over the past year. The electro
influence is apparent from the start as an 808 State style
introduction makes way for a Daft Punk-esque opening riff.
This continues throughout as electro baselines combine with
twisted guitars to form an almost retro backing for Vivian
to lay down her vocals. These vocals are in fact a pitched
up reworking of those used on an old 70s soul track
found by Tomcraft (Thomas Brücker) while digging through
the crates in his local charity shop.
Remix
duties are handled by Tillmann Uhrmacher whose euphoric re-rub
will be no surprise those who heard his "On The Run"
while Benny Benassi beefs up the synths and adds a vocal loop
to create a far deeper trancer.
With
Judge Jules playing this at midnight on New Years Eve
and churning it out for thirteen weeks straight on Radio One,
it looks set to follow in the footsteps of other Data releases.
Tomcraft
is currently working on his second album "Muc".
