Beauty's
new haunting presence
The previously named Third Eye Foundation returns with an
album worth changing your name for. 'The Mess We Made' is
an ordeal from the soul, and Elliot bears it all. At times
dark, plaintive and beautiful at others reassuringly lovely.
Built on Elliot's haunting piano playing and echoing distant
vocals, you can imagine this as the soundtrack of the abandoned
house at the end of road, brimming with memories. Past loves,
lives, thoughts and anguish spiralling out from within it.
Occasionally, this is broken by swirling of electric guitars,
or electronic beats as a unexpected UK Garage theme filters
through from nowhere. Instruments add themselves seamlessly
from out of the ether, forming a vibrant, floating mass of
beautiful sounds.
Hood, Mogwai and Blonde Redhead all once played in Matt Elliot's
house and their mark lingers as the album unfolds. No more
could be done to make this album's presence more haunting
yet still utterly oozing with life.
In these lost, crazy and disturbing days 'The Mess We Made'
offers an unjudgemental shoulder to cry on. Be reassured.
