High Ordination

The number of people ordained in the Diocese of Lincoln is on the increase.

Does your local church have a vicar? Or do you share your vicar with a number of other churches?

Fact File

26 people will have been ordained in Lincolnshire by the end of 2009. That's the highest number since 1981.

The trend is not unique to Lincolnshire, but it seems more and more people are making the Diocese of Lincoln one of their first choices.

2009 is also a record year for Lay Readers with 17 people putting themselves forward for training.

2010 will be another bumper year for ordinations.

In recent years there has been a shortage of clergy in the county. But it looks like that could soon been changing.

The number of people ordained in the Diocese of Lincoln 2009 is back up to the level it was in the early 1980s, and there's been an increase in the number of people wanting to train as Lay Readers.

The Diocese of Lincoln is the administrative title for the Church of England in Lincolnshire, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire, and includes more than 640 churches and communities and a number of chaplaincies.

BBC Radio Lincolnshire's Paul Russell has been speaking to Lincoln's Diocesan Director of Vocations and Ordinands, the Reverend Jeff Heskins.
