After a long running saga it's been decided that Horncastle's Victorian Town Hall will be demolished. Council officials have decided the boarded-up building must go, despite pleas from a local community group. The unanimous decision by East Lindsey District Council puts an end to a plan by a local community group to take over control of the hall. There were angry scenes when the decision was announced, but Councillors have said that the sums for a local group to take over the town hall just didn't add up. Officials in East Lindsey say they won't make a decision on what to do with land vacated by Horncastle Town Hall until later in the year. Campaigners are now fighting to save Horncastle Town Hall and are planning to take out a court injunction to stop the building being knocked down. History of the Town HallHorncastle's Town Hall was built in 1901 and funded by public subscription. It was built to accomodate army volunteers and it was also used as a place of public entertainment through until the 1960's. In 1972 it became home to the Town Council and also became home to the East Lindsey District Council area office. The Town Hall Working Group was formed in 2006.
