Brontide storm The Mix

The dictionary defination of Brontide is 'rumbling of distant thunder'. The Lincolnshire group certainly created a storm in our studios.

It would be unfair to predetermine Brontide on the members other efforts. Whether previous or current it is from these that numerous people will know one member or another. However to us Tim Hancock, Nathan Fairweather and William Bowerman are Brontide.

Brontide

Like most bands Brontide formed from a practice session, “we got two or three songs together so we decided to make something of it” says drummer Will “we knew then that we needed a bassist”. Guitarist Tim Hancock jumps in with a satirical smile across his face “we tried to get Flea in but he said no”, no surprise there, so with Flea unavailable the duo turned to friend Nathan Fairweather, who according to Tim had “begged for months to join”.

Once other commitments had ended the band gave themselves a name and started gigging, their first supporting pioneering post-rock outfit Red Sparowes. Not bad for their first proper exposure.

Following in the footsteps as acts Pelican, Isis and Red Sparowes, Brontide have taking the instrumental route, often a challenging one as without vocals there is more emphasis on the music to remain interesting through out. But what reasons do the band have for taking up such a difficult route? “We wanted to be an instrumental band from the start, the songs we had written didn’t suit vocals” says Tim “instead we concentrated on our instruments,” Will adds “it makes it more of a challenged to keep it interesting, although to some extent it makes song writing easier, not having to write lyrics”

Brontide

Here the challenge has been met, Brontide purr with melodic breakdowns, roar with ferocious riffs that the heaviest band would be envious of and at no point does it become dull or repetitive. In a word awesome.

Brontide’s growth since their beginning several months ago has been impressive, however due to other commitments and touring at each available opportunity (this appearance falls in between gigs) the band have been unable to get decent material recorded.

Other recordings do exists and can be found on iTunes, however up until recently the band have been unable to get into the recording studio. “We’ve just got the first mix back of a song we recorded called Bob Mundan” says Will, oh and that reference will make sense to those that heard their session “we recorded that a few weeks ago, it’s going on a split EP that’ll be released in August”.

Brontide

Of course the band are on tour as we speak and a tour with Shapes is proposed, also for August, so be sure to check them out. For more details on news, tour dates, and releases check out
