On Sunday 11th January the fourth of six conservation project days took place at Mareham Pastures Local Nature Reserve. More than 700 shrubs and trees were planted to replace an area of woodland that had to be cut down for safety reasons. Most of the tree planting was carried out by Sleaford Cubs and Scouts who are involved with the Scouting Association's environment & climate change work. Matthew Davey, Lincolnshire County Council’s Environmental and Community Project Officer said: "The Cubs and Scouts really got stuck in, and thanks to their hard work; we have achieved a huge amount today." ![]() Tree Planting at Mareham Pastures Zoë Watson, Secretary of the Friends of Mareham Pastures added: "The Cubs and Scouts alone must have planted over 500 trees today and it is very encouraging to see so many young people helping to improve their environment in this way." The Mareham Pastures Conservation Volunteer Programme continues to provide an opportunity for anyone to get some hands-on experience of conservation work, whatever their previous experience. The next Conservation Volunteer event will be held on Sunday 8th February when volunteers will be needed to help plant and prune trees.
