The Gainsborough Amateur Operatic Society was formed back in the summer of 1910. The Society's aim is to provide entertainment for the people of Gainsborough & District and present it in a professional manner. ![]() Calamity Jane GAOS' first production was HMS Pinafore which was presented in 1911 and made a net profit of £36 7s 8d. During their existence GAOS has performed at several venues, notably the Kings Theatre, the State Cinema and the Queen Elizabeth Grammar School. Since 1985 they have performed their shows at the Trinity Arts Centre. In order to achieve a high standard of performance, the Society has employed several professional producers over the years. The first of these was Shelford Walsh, who was paid £15 for a three-week engagement for Iolanthe in 1913. ![]() GAOS performing Anything Goes The Society are again using a Professional Producer for next year’s production of 42nd Street notably, Greg Snape, who has produced several shows for them including Anything Goes in 2008. 42nd Street is being staged at the Trinity Arts Centre from 28th April until 2nd May 2009.
