His and Hers Gastric Bands

For one Lincolnshire couple with a combined weight of 42 stone, matching gastric band operations was the only option left to try to improve their quality of life..

Back in June this year, Roy and Kate Glencross from Holbeach both went under the knife for matching stomach shrinking operations, because they had a combined weight of 42 stone.

Before the operation, Roy weighed 24 stone, and he suffered from so much knee pain that he needed both surgically replacing. His wife Kate weighed 18 stone, and had to take 19 pills a day for high blood pressure. The couple said that the surgery was their last resort.

The gastric-band operation helps people to eat less as their stomachs become full with less food and this means they can lose weight.

Well, they had their operations on the 17th of June, since then Roy's lost nearly 4 stone, and Kate 3 and a half - making the operations a great success.

They told Rod Whiting about the operation and just how it has changed their lives for the better.

Have Your Say

Would you consider such a drastic operation to help you to lose weight? Do you think Roy and Kate should have had the operations?

you recently run a story about dr chris de brune from belgium. I was very lucky to have had him as my surgeon in sept last year some of us can't get past the jumped up doctors in this country to have this operation on the n.h.s.which i have paid into for the whole of my working life.the private doctors in this country charge an absolute fortune to have any proceedure at all done. I was morbidly obese at 19 stone I have had my life transformed by this man I have lost 5 stone and i feel great. The care i recieved was of the highest standard and my medical history was fully examined by the surgeons before the operation was even agreed. I was very dissapionted that your programme gave such a slanted view why did you not ask the people who are his patients and survey them. This is only the private health of this country feeling the pinch of somebody doing what they do at half the cost and with better care and better hospital facilities. you really should have given a better more balanced view of this matter.hopefully you haven't spoilt the chances of people with modest pockets getting the only help that they have available out there to change there lives.
