An illuminated book of psalms created between 1325 and 1340 for Sir Geoffrey Luttrell of Irnham in Lincolnshire, it is world famous for its detailed scenes of medieval village life, and is one of the prize possessions of the British Library. WAG Screen community group has taken these beautifully detailed and often humorous images and turned them into a short film for The Collection, Lincoln's museum. The film follows a year on a medieval estate; we will hear the voices of the villagers and the sounds of their everyday life and on a few occasions, where voices are raised and heard above the background, we will register what they are saying, but it will be in Middle English. The final twenty or so pages of the Psalter contain music notation and words. We arranged for this to be sung in Irnham Church, probably for the first time in centuries, and recorded. The music soundtrack, which has been especially written for us by early music musicians, will include the music we recorded in Irnham. The film launch and associated exhibition will be in May 2008.
