I finished in my best time ever in a 10k, a PB as they call it, 1.02.30 and I'm really pleased with myself, I came home with a medal and a T-Shirt. I wore the medal to work today to show everyone, me with a Lincoln 10k medal, which a year ago I thought I would never be able to achieve. ![]() Carolyn pictured with her medal The day was great, the weather gorgeous and the atmosphere was exhilarating, everybody charged up and ready to go. There was a short delay in setting off as some people had parked their cars where they shouldn't and we had to wait for them to be towed away. When we did get under way the streets where lined with onlookers cheering us on all the way around, people just sitting in their gardens or people who had come to cheer on friends and relatives, it was wonderful. There were several runners in costumes running to raise money for charity, they must have been hot in the sun, I was quite warm myself and tired without wearing a costume. At the beginning I had to try very hard not to be carried away by the rest of the runners, as I started there were loads of people running past me and its very easy to up your pace to try and keep up with them, but then you tire too quickly and can't finish as well as you would like. I managed to keep a good steady pace all the way round and by about 6 or 7ks I started to overtake several of the runners who had started off too fast. By 8ks I was really tired and had to put all my effort in, but I did and it paid off, I crossed the finish line in, what I feel, a very respectable time. I would definitely do it again, who knows next year I may get home in less than 1 hour. Thanks to Julie and everyone at Sleaford Town Runners who have helped and supported me and I hope my diary will influence any other readers who are looking for a fun, flexible and cheap way to get and keep fit, and as I have, develop a new social life. last updated: 13/01/2009 at 17:23 You are in: Lincolnshire > Places > Lincoln 10k > Carolyn's Lincoln 10k Diary - After The Race |
