Sevenday Weekend in the Mix studio

Sevenday Weekend Live In Session On The Friday Night Mix.

"I mean, the James Blunt connection could potentially be very useful"

jokes Flaff, cousin of Mr Blunt's drummer, and sticksman of Lincoln based 5-piece Sevenday Weekend when they came into the newly named 'The Sauna' (our session studio.) for the first session of 2008.

Standing at the front door of 2008, we predict it to be an exciting year for local music. So as I take time to talk to some of the nicest gentlemen I have met on the Lincoln scene, I find out what some of their aims are for this year. "If you set out purely to get signed, you'll end up very disillusioned" says Jim, the charismatic vocalist, with the agreement of the whole band. Nevertheless, they are seeing this year as a chance to really go for it and make a name for themselves. "We want to make a name for Lincoln as well. When we played at the Carling Academy in Islington, people couldn't believe we were from Lincoln. And we've beaten London bands on their home turf in competitions."

"We want to make a name for Lincoln as well"

Also on the agenda for Sevenday Weekend's 2008 is to get into the studio as early as possible to record new material. "We've been on the road with our current material for the last twelve months, so it's time for some new stuff and to try that out." But as we discuss the prospects for the coming year, it quickly becomes apparent that actually 2007 has been wonderful for Sevenday Weekend. It's been exactly a year since they last paid us a visit, so what has happened in the last twelve months?

Sevenday Weekend play for The Mix

Reeling off a list of gigs that almost dwarves Robbie Williams' Knebworth appearance, it is clear that they have been creating quite a stir in other regions of this island. Citing the aforementioned Carling Academy gig as a highlight, others include being semi-finalists of a worldwide battle-of-the-bands, a showcase in Camden, an invite to play in Ireland, and the WOW Factor at Lincoln's Theatre Royal. "We got a lot of positive response from that. Richard Kort (judge of The WOW Factor, and owner of The Richard Kort Associates entertainment agency) told us he just couldn't get our song out of his head!"

Sevenday Weekend on the Drums

Drum, Drum Away, 7DW!

So what about the sound Sevenday Weekend are creating? Their crowd-pleaser 'Chocolate Girl' will get stuck in your head (just ask Richard Kort!). I’d suggest if you are even remotely interested in the straightforwardness of R.E.M, or the playful guitar/ keyboards combo of Maxïmo Park, you will like these guys. But what do they have to say about it? "We just do what we do and it sounds how it sounds." Brilliant.
