"Imagine a cat with a beak" brought about much discussion during my time with Moiety on Friday night when the Lincoln/ Manchester four piece came in for a session. Luckily they also had a lot more to say besides cross genetics! The band are made up of the members Dan (Bass and Guitar), Tom on Drums, Guitarist Chris and newcomer Rushby who plays both Keys and Bass. They all do vocals. The band formed about two years ago after Dan and Chris had kicked the drummer out of their previous band. They brought in Tom and decided to change their name, and with it their sound. This led to them bringing in former Whelk Attachment member Rushby roughly six months ago. | "It all kicked off to the point of a riot so they had to leg it just to save themselves!" | |
The band are still trying to work on their sound but it's mainly rocky, grungy, atmospheric punk, the dark kind of music. However they were quite clear with their influences, which included such bands as Joy Division, Nirvana, the Beetles, Sonic Youth, Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age and Radiohead. A band from the local area Moiety like is Lost Hearts from Grantham, so much so in fact they claim they're the best band to have supported them to date. Speaking of the local scene in terms of venues the band feel most places are getting there, such as Christopher's. The Engine Shed is something the quartet feels the area desperately needed and has finally given the place that 'buzz'. They want to see more of an effort made though in getting local bands to play there. Don't mess with Moiety One gig that sticks in the memory for the four piece is when they visited Gizzbutt's (of Prodigy fame) local in Peterborough. It all kicked off to the point of a riot so they had to leg it just to save themselves! Another was from when they played at LN2 in Lincoln. Again this gig ended rather suddenly as they nearly ended up in a fight! Generally though most of the gigs they get are last minute ones. The band are currently adding to the large amount of material they already have by recording an E.P. at their mates house in Market Rasen. This E.P. will be available to buy from their gigs in the near future. This bit is weird The band finished with a collection of tips and statements they felt the public needed to know. • Don't eat yellow snow • Look before you leap • Long live the Full English Breakfast • Long Live Bob Hoskins Finally though they wanted us to start a campaign, namely the "Bring Back The Viking Café (in Lincoln) Campaign!" We'll see what we can do lads. |
