Bourne Grammar: ASBO film project

Is Lincolnshire an ASBO county? Children from Bourne cut through the fact and fiction behind the controversial punishment.

ASBOs are one of the most contentious issues in the country right now and it provided the children from Bourne Grammar School with lots of great talking points for their documentary.

Phone calls, internet searching and good journalistic detective work meant the team had tracked down great interviewees with conflicting opinions about ASBOs. The students spoke to Quentin Davies MP, a Community Safety Manager and a Police Officer amongst others.

Setting up the shot

The legal aspects of their documentary were a little bit of a mine-field and they embraced the fact that the representation of ASBOs would have to be factually correct and true if their film was to be showcased. They contacted the Home Office to check all statistics and became the most enterprising and thorough of all projects so far.

The team also wanted to find out the public’s perception of ASBOs so they hit the streets and 'vox popped' local people.  Editing and filming was completed in a very professional manner and the editors even stayed on after school until 9pm to finish so they could showcase their film to their peers on the final day. A fantastic piece of documentary film making which you can view now on BBC Lincolnshire's website.
