Birkbeck School Film Project

One film, six students from the Birkbeck School, deadlines to meet, interviews to arrange, locations to find, scripts to write, filming, editing, production plans and a great deal of teamwork and… only one week to do it!

North Somercotes is located in a quiet rural location within Lincolnshire and boasts a typical village-like community. So, when the BBC descended upon the Birkbeck School and set 6 students the task of creating a unique piece of work to be showcased on this website and the BBC Bus the village became the centre of their company, Mad Eye Productions!

Through detailed mind-mapping sessions and assigning themselves roles within their production company (Production Manager, Director, Camera-operators etc.) they set to task sourcing locations and interviews for a documentary piece concerning stereotypes, principally those of how the younger generation is viewed by the elderly and those with disabilities.

Their completed film was premiered on the BBC Bus to their peer group, in the school assembly and the group was also featured on the breakfast show of BBC Lincolnshire and two local newspapers. Finally their hard-work and dedication paid off with the hugely positive feedback from the school, the local community and the press. Thoroughly deserved and future stars I am sure!
